In partnership with our community, Women's Crisis Services of Waterloo Region empowers and supports women and children to move beyond violence and abuse through the provision of safe shelter, education and outreach services.
Anselma House and Haven House Residential Program
We provide emergency crisis shelter for any woman experiencing any form of abuse in an intimate or familial relationship and who have no other alternate safe place. If she is a mother, she may bring kids up to age 18 of both genders with her to be with her and be safe.
We have two shelters: Haven House in Cambridge and Anselma House in Kitchener-Waterloo, both with 45 beds.
Support phone lines are available 24/7 to discuss abuse concerns and provide guidance in identifying and dealing with abusive relationships. We offer interpreters and have a language line available for immediate responses for women whose first language is not English.
Once at the shelter, the support is ongoing:
- Advocacy continues around legal needs, housing, parenting and transitioning toward independence for our residents and their children
- We offer a food and nutrition program and child and youth programming along with a Child and Family Therapist
- Both shelters are served by a Clinical Psychologist, dental care and nursing resources
- Support is provided both one-on-one, and through groups to help women move beyond violence
- We assist with safety planning
- Support for housing and/or Ontario Works
- Education about violence against women
- Employment search support
- Music therapy
- Child and youth programs
- Referrals to local agencies
As our work is vert private and sensitive, we rarely have volunteer opportunities to work directly with women and children. Our opportunities to volunteer exist with out Board of Directors, event committees, and event execution.
