We are a group of like-minded individuals with a Social Work background who believe that life changing therapy can be as simple as being a dog’s best friend. Our motivation stems from this passion and when we noticed a gap in services for people with disabilities, TheraPet Farm was born. TheraPet Farm will be offering day programs for adults with a range of disabilities (physical, cognitive, and behavioural). These programs will include, but are not limited to, employment assistance, advocating, life skills building, individual case management, and recreation and leisure. Some of these programs will be facilitated using dogs who are having trouble being adopted. We hope to collaborate with local animal organizations to make this a mutually beneficial relationship, saving the dogs from the fate of a kill shelter and using the power of the therapeutic human/canine bond to promote the wellness of our clients. TheraPet Farm has been offered eleven acres of property, though we are in need of funds in order to renovate and ensure that the building is fully accessible. We also require start-up funds for programming, administrative costs, and transportation for our clients. This program would be essential to our clients, due to the lack of outpatient services geared towards adult with disabilities in Waterloo region. The people involved with TheraPet Farm and our future clients and foster dogs would greatly appreciate any assistance in making this dream a reality!
