Kinbridge Community Association actively engages and empowers community through positive relationship building and the facilitation of programs and services that embrace equity, inclusion, and diversity.
Drop Loft (Youth 13 to 18)
Drop Loft is a two hour drop-in program for youth in the community who may not have an interest in – or feel comfortable attending – the other various drop-in programs Kinbridge currently facilitates. Drop Loft’s programming is more varied in an effort to appeal to a wider demographic, with the youth being given the opportunity to participate in planning activities. Upcoming events include board game nights, “theme nights” (e.g. MLB, NBA, minute to win-it), and potlucks.
Drop Loft’s aim is to create and promote fun, inclusive space for high-risk populations, specifically youth who may be dealing with issues involving drugs and alcohol, gang activity, and mental health. The program offers activities in which youth may not get to participate on their own time, either due to financial constraints or social factors, such as having difficulty making friends.
Not only is Drop Loft’s programming geared toward youth interests, but youth are encouraged to participate in the planning and implementation of programming. In doing this, youth are building valuable skills such as leadership, program organization, and making connections to other members in their community.
All contributions assist in providing youth a safe, inclusive space to participate in fun activities that help them reconnect with their community. Donations would provide us resources with which to continue our programming, as well as opening the possibility to expand on the activities we are able to orchestrate with the youth.
Donations for Drop Loft are not only greatly appreciated, but they are integral in keeping the program afloat. Monetary donations would go a long way in sustaining the program. We are accepting funds from individuals, groups, and businesses who wish to make a difference in youth’s lives.
Donations involving food are also valued by this program. In addition to gift cards for local grocery stores and restaurants, which would help in providing snacks for the youth during each drop-in night, one of the regular youth activities involves baking sessions. Therefore, donations of cake mixes, brownie mixes, etc., would benefit Drop Loft through maintaining the baking sessions as a program staple. Other non-perishable food donations we accept include snacks such as chips, cookies, granola bars, etc.
We also accept donations of clothing such as sweaters, hoodies and winter attire (e.g. hats, mittens, and scarves) to give youth who might need them for the colder months of the year.
As games and game events are also an important part of our programming, Drop Loft is also accepting donations of board games, console equipment (such as controllers for the PlayStation 3 and Wii systems), and sporting equipment such as basketballs and soccer balls.
