GivingTuesday Comes to Waterloo Region
Tuesday, December 1st is Giving Tuesday, a day for businesses, individuals, groups and charities to join together to rally for favourite causes, create opportunities and share meaningful experiences. Whether it’s raising awareness, volunteering or fundraising, Giving Tuesday is our day to celebrate the importance and impact of giving back.
Just as Black Friday kicks off the holiday shopping season, Giving Tuesday marks the start of the giving season. What started three years ago in New York is now becoming a global movement that has reached 68 countries. Last year, Vancouver, Regina, Guelph, Ottawa, and Halifax launched their charitable campaigns. Now the Giving Tuesday movement has come to Waterloo Region.
Harnessing our generous spirit
Giving Tuesday Waterloo Region will tap into community advocates, partners and leaders to encourage everyone to give what they can – whether it’s time, goods, or
funds – on December 1, 2015. The more awareness is created, the more giving activity will take place. Our Region will rely on three ingredients to be successful:
1. People talking to people – Everyone is encouraged to advocate and promote Giving Tuesday Waterloo Region using their contacts and connections, particularly
on social media. Posts, tweets/retweets with a single message, a single hashtag and a single purpose will bring the networks of many to one convenient giving platform.
2. www.givingtuesdaywr.ca – Our local site is launching in early November! This will be a single destination to learn about and donate to all local charities.
3. A supportive community – Waterloo Region is truly a giving community. With more than 500,000 residents, there is a lot of charitable potential.
Be a part of our giving movement
Giving Tuesday is about more than giving money. It’s about inspiring one another to do what you can to help. And, it’s easy to get yourself, and your organization, family, business, or school involved.
